Tips for the game
- If you've ruled out the common consonants (R, S, T, N, L) and nothing works, consider less frequent letters like Z, X or Q.
- In Italian, Q is almost always followed by U: think of the QU- combination at the start of the word or in the middle.
- Z is far more widespread in Italian than in other languages: it often appears in the doubles (ZZ) as in PIZZA, MEZZO or RAZZA — watch for 5-letter words with an internal ZZ.
- Accented vowels are distinct letters. If an unaccented vowel doesn't work but you know it's in the word, try its accented version.
- W, K, J and Y appear almost exclusively in foreign loanwords. If the word of the day contains one of these letters, think of terms of English or German origin or adaptations of proper names.
